According to new research by Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money, ChatGPT is the most popular AI travel planning tool among tech-savvy holidaymakers.

A recent study by Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money reveals that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an increasingly popular tool for holiday planning among British travellers.

The research, which surveyed 2,000 UK leisure travellers, found that ChatGPT is the most widely used AI tool for travel planning, with 45 per cent of AI users turning to the platform.

Other popular AI tools for travel planning include Roam Around (27 per cent), Guide.com (25 per cent), Microsoft Copilot (24 per cent), and Out of Office (23 per cent).

The study indicates that one in ten Britons have already used AI for travel planning, with one in five likely to use it again in the future.

The adoption of AI for travel planning is particularly prevalent among younger generations. Nearly half (46 per cent) of people aged 18 to 24 and 43 per cent of those aged 25 to 34 expressed likelihood to use AI for their next holiday planning.

In contrast, only 10 per cent of those aged 65 and over showed interest in using AI for this purpose.

However, the research also highlighted several concerns and limitations associated with AI travel planning.

A significant 91 per cent of AI users reported experiencing some form of constraint or shortcoming.

The most common issues were generic answers (38 per cent), missing information (37 per cent), and incorrect information (30 per cent).

Privacy concerns are also a significant barrier, with more than a quarter (26 per cent) of respondents expressing hesitation about using AI for travel planning due to privacy worries.

Stuart Briant, head of Travel Money at Sainsbury’s Bank, says: “Amidst recent reports of a rise in AI-fuelled travel scams, it’s not a surprise some holidaymakers are being cautious. Whether you’re using AI or not, it’s important that you take steps to protect yourself.”

Briant also advises travellers to be vigilant about potential phishing attempts and other tactics used by cybercriminals.
